Enhanced Strength

LYD GLASS only uses A-grade float glass to produce tempered glass, which will reduce the self-explosion rate of tempered glass. The glass will be flat-edged and polished, with 3-5mm round safety corners. The safety corners will avoid scratches on personnel. Tempered glass will be packed in strong wooden boxes or steel pallets and our tempered glass complies with American (CAN CGSB 12.1-2022, ANSI Z97.1-2015(R2020) and CPSC 16 CFR 1201-2024) and European standards (CE EN-12150-2:2004).

  Tempered glass is a type of safety glass processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. When broken, it shatters into small granular chunks instead of splintering into jagged shards, making it safer for use in various applications.

  Production Process

  The production of tempered glass primarily involves a thermal tempering process, which induces compressive stress on the glass surface and tensile stress in the core.

  Glass Preparation (Pre-Tempering Fabrication)

  Cutting: Large sheets of annealed (float) glass are cut to the exact required dimensions and shapes using automated glass cutting machines.

  Edging

  All edges of the cut glass are ground and polished.scratching people.This removes sharp edges and micro-cracks that could lead to breakage during the tempering process. Frameless tempered glass has 3m-5mm rounded safety corners to avoid .

  Edging can be flat, pencil, beveled, etc.

  Drilling/Notching

  Any holes, cut-outs, or notches required for hardware, hinges, or specific designs are precisely drilled or cut at this stage. It is critical that all fabrication is completed before tempering, as tempered glass cannot be cut, drilled, or modified once processed.

  Washing

  The prepared glass sheets are thoroughly washed with de-ionized water and brushed to remove any dust, debris, oils, or particles. This ensures a clean surface for uniform heating and prevents defects.

• Excellent Thermal Stability

  Tempered glass exhibits remarkable thermal stability, capable of withstanding temperature fluctuations ranging from 250 to 320°C. In contrast, ordinary annealed glass can only tolerate temperature changes between 20 and 100°C.

   

  Heating (Furnace Process)

  The clean glass is fed into a tempering furnace (also known as a tempering oven or lehr).

  Inside the furnace, the glass is heated to a very high temperature, typically between 620°C to 700°C (1150°F to 1300°F), which is just above its annealing point but below its melting point.

  The heating process is carefully controlled to ensure uniform temperature distribution throughout the glass. The glass softens slightly at this temperature.

   

  Quenching (Rapid Cooling)

  Immediately after reaching the desired temperature, the hot glass is rapidly cooled (quenched).

  This is achieved by blowing high-pressure air blasts onto both surfaces of the glass simultaneously and uniformly.

  The rapid cooling causes the outer surfaces of the glass to cool and solidify much faster than the inner core.

   

  Stress Creation (Compression & Tension)

  As the outer surfaces cool and harden, they contract. The interior, still hot and molten, continues to cool and contract more slowly.

  The faster-cooled outer layers are put into compression, while the slower-cooled interior remains in tension. This locked-in stress state (compressive stress on the surface and tensile stress in the core) is what gives tempered glass its significantly increased strength and its characteristic safe breakage pattern.

   

  Materials: The primary materials involved in tempered glass production are

  Float Glass: High-quality annealed (regular) float glass is the base material. This can be clear, low-iron (extra clear), tinted, or coated float glass.

  Air: Used extensively in the quenching process.

  Water (De-ionized): Used for washing the glass.

  Superior Strength: 4 to 5 times stronger than annealed glass of the same thickness. This leads to higher resistance against impact, mechanical stress, thermal stress, and bending.

  High Thermal Shock Resistance: Can withstand larger and more rapid temperature differentials (up to 200°C - 300°C) without breaking, making it suitable for environments with fluctuating temperatures.

Tempered Laminated Glass (Toughened Laminated, Tempered-PVB-Tempered Glass)

Tempered Laminated Glass is a composite glass product that combines the high strength of tempered glass with the safety and integrity of laminated glass. It consists of two or more panes of tempered glass permanently bonded together with one or more layers of polymeric interlayers (typically PVB, EVA, or SGP) under heat and pressure.   The production of tempered laminated glass is a multi-stage process that leverages the individual processes of tempering and lamination.

  Interlayer Preparation

  The chosen interlayer material (PVB or SGP film) is cut to the exact dimensions of the tempered glass panes.

  For multiple layers of glass or interlayer, the sequence is carefully planned.

  Layering/Assembly (Clean Room Environment)

  In a precisely controlled, clean, and often climate-controlled environment, the tempered glass panes are meticulously stacked with the chosen interlayer(s) in between them.

  Operators ensure no dust or debris gets trapped between the layers.

  The typical structure is Glass | Interlayer | Glass, but it can be more complex (e.g., Glass | Interlayer | Glass | Interlayer | Glass).

  Pre-Lamination (Nipping/Pre-Pressing/Vacuum Bagging)

  The assembled "sandwich" is run through a roller press (nipping machine) or placed in a vacuum bag/chamber.

  This process removes most of the trapped air between the glass and interlayer, creating a preliminary bond and preventing bubble formation during final lamination.

  Autoclave Curing (Final Lamination)

  The pre-laminated glass is placed into an autoclave (a large, sealed pressure vessel).

  Inside the autoclave, the glass is subjected to carefully controlled high heat (typically 120°C - 150°C) and high pressure (e.g., 8-15 bar) for several hours.

  This process ensures the complete melting and permanent bonding of the interlayer to the tempered glass surfaces, effectively creating a single, integrated unit.

  Cooling and Quality Control

  After the autoclave cycle, the glass is slowly cooled.

  Thorough physical and optical inspections are carried out to check for any defects, delamination, haziness, bubbles, or other imperfections. Dimensional checks and compliance with specifications are also verified.

   Main Materials

  Tempered Glass Panes: These are the primary structural components, providing high impact resistance and thermal stability. Available in various thicknesses, tints, colors, and coatings (e.g., low-iron, reflective).

  Interlayers: These bonding layers are crucial for safety and other functional properties. The choice depends on the specific application requirements:

  PVB (Polyvinyl Butyral): The most common interlayer. Offers excellent adhesion, flexibility, acoustic dampening, and UV blocking. Available in clear, colored, or custom printed forms.

  SGP (SentryGlas® Plus / SentryGlas®): A high-performance ionoplast interlayer from DuPont/Kuraray. Significantly stiffer, stronger, and more clear than PVB.
