What is ultra-clear glass? What is the difference with ordinary glass?

1. The characteristics of ultra-clear glass
Ultra-clear glass, also known as high-transparency glass and low-iron glass, is a kind of ultra-transparent low-iron glass. How high is its light transmittance? The light transmittance of ultra-clear glass can reach more than 91.5%, and it has the characteristics of high-end elegance and crystal clearness. Therefore, it is called the “Crystal Prince” in the glass family, and ultra-clear glass has superior mechanical, physical and optical properties, which are unreachable by other glasses. At the same time, ultra-clear glass has all the processing properties of high-quality float glass. , So it can be processed like other float glass. This superior product performance and quality make ultra-white glass have a broad application space and advanced market prospects.

2. The use of ultra-clear glass
In foreign countries, ultra-clear glass is mainly used in high-end buildings, high-end glass processing and solar photovoltaic curtain walls, as well as high-end glass furniture, decorative glass, imitation crystal products, lamp glass, precision electronics (copiers, scanners), special buildings, etc.

In China, the application of ultra-clear glass is rapidly expanding, and the application in high-end buildings and special buildings has opened up, such as Beijing National Grand Theater, Beijing Botanical Garden, Shanghai Opera House, Shanghai Pudong Airport, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, Nanjing Chinese Art Hundreds of projects including the center have applied ultra-clear glass. High-end furniture and high-end decorative lamps have also begun to use ultra-clear glass in large quantities. At the furniture and processing machinery exhibition held in Beijing, many glass furniture use ultra-clear glass.

As a substrate material, ultra-clear glass provides a broader development space for the development of solar energy technology with its unique high light transmittance. The use of ultra-clear glass as the substrate of the solar thermal and photoelectric conversion system is a breakthrough in solar energy utilization technology in the world, which greatly improves the photoelectric conversion efficiency. In particular, my country has begun to build a new type of solar photovoltaic curtain wall production line, which will use a large amount of ultra-clear glass.

3. The difference between ultra-clear glass and clear glass:
The difference between the two is:

(1) Different iron content

The difference between ordinary clear glass and ultra-clear glass in transparency is mainly the difference in the amount of iron oxide (Fe2O3). The content of ordinary white glass is more, and the content of ultra-clear glass is less.

(2) The light transmittance is different

Since the iron content is different, the light transmittance is also different.

The light transmittance of ordinary white glass is about 86% or less; ultra-white glass is a kind of ultra-transparent low-iron glass, also known as low-iron glass and high-transparent glass. The light transmittance can reach more than 91.5%.

(3) The spontaneous explosion rate of glass is different

Because the raw materials of ultra-clear glass generally contain less impurities such as NiS, and the fine control during the melting of the raw materials, the ultra-clear glass has a more uniform composition than ordinary glass and has fewer internal impurities, which greatly reduces the possibility of tempering. The chance of self-destruction.

(4) Different color consistency

Since the iron content in the raw material is only 1/10 or even lower than that of ordinary glass, ultra-clear glass absorbs less in the green band of visible light than ordinary glass, ensuring the consistency of glass color.

(5) Different technical content

Ultra-clear glass has relatively high technological content, difficult production control, and relatively strong profitability compared to ordinary glass. Higher quality determines its expensive price. The price of ultra-white glass is 1 to 2 times that of ordinary glass, and the cost is not much higher than ordinary glass, but the technical barrier is relatively high and it has a higher added value.
